What is the ‘Meublé de tourisme’ classification?

Furnished holiday accommodation comprises furnished villas, flats or studios, for the exclusive use of the tenant, offered for let to visitors staying there on a short-term basis, typically on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, and who do not take up residence there (Article D 324-1 of the Tourism Code).

The ‘Furnished Tourist Accommodation’ classification, awarded for a period of 5 years, is a voluntary scheme at national level. It enables holiday lets to be assessed and rated on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. At the end of the 5-year period, a new application for classification is required to retain this status.

This classification is based on a grid of 133 criteria divided into three main categories: facilities and amenities, services offered to guests, and accessibility and commitment to sustainable development.

What is the classification procedure?

To have your accommodation classified as a ‘Meublé de Tourisme’ with Gîtes de France Vendée, you must return the following documents to us, duly completed:

• the preliminary application for classification as a furnished holiday accommodation

Overview of the classification procedure:

• Assessment visit to check the 133 criteria on the assessment grid (Facilities and fittings; Services
  for guests; Accessibility and sustainable development)
• Administration of the file (Classification checklist, submission of the inspection report, classification decision within
  a maximum of 1 month)
• Proposal for a final classification, provided the applicant has not refused it within 15 days of
  receipt. Any complaint regarding the classification or for any other reason must be submitted to our department.
